Voice and the Actor is the distillation of Cicely Berry's method of teaching voice production. It contains excersises to develop relaxation, breathing and muscular control - vital for meaningful speaking of texts, both pros and poetry, and for interpretation of dramatic character. The excersises are illustrated with passages which Cicely Berry has, in her experience, found to be most useful. Though addressed primarily to actors, the book, with its straightforward, practical approach and overlying theory that 'naturalness is all', should appeal to anyone interested in acting - and to people for whom vocal control in their jobs and in everyday life is important.
