Synopsis

Though his wife Faithful isn't quite dead, Standfast, the cobbler knowing she can't last long, has advertised for a new bride. In Nova Scotia in the 1780's, it is the only practical way to get one. Besides, winter is coming and he has a house and six children to be looked after. But Faithful takes a turn for the better just as the local postman arrives with Susannah Comfort, a pleasant lass who has answered the ad. Faithful springs out of her bed, ready to battle for her home. She is furious at her husband but rather sympathizes with poor Susannah.
