Synopsis

Adapted in 1982 by Roy Surette (now better known as artistic director of Victoria's Belfry Theatre), the play brings to life the most memorable characters in Lewis Carroll's two Alice books. There's the ever-unpunctual White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the decapitation-threatening Queen, and more. Surette's script also includes a clever framing device that references the books' creation. In brief scenes that introduce Alice's surreal adventures, we meet the real-life Alice Liddell, her sister Ina, and their friend, the Rev. Charles Dodgson (aka Carroll), who entertains them with whimsical stories in which Alice-with the parting of a curtain-finds herself the protagonist.
